"Materiality" - 2018
The aim of this body of work is to create clean, simple, yet thoughtful compositions and connections to the materiality of each article depicted, while also making aesthetically pleasing images that would function within the context of advertising imagery for a high caliber retailer such as Nordstrom. This is explored through two approaches; either building compositions based on implied functionalities of the items and their respective brand image, or through the materials used in creating the garment. The connections between the garments and the backgrounds are meant to be thought provoking, while also not being overly difficult to read, as the average time one spends looking at an advertisement in the current day is relatively short. This over all framework and way of working is meant to elevate the potentials for narrative to exist in commercial still life work, and build on the current trends in advertising imagery.
